About The Alex
Alexandra Hotel
Originally built in 1903 and named after Queen Alexandra (the consort of King Edward VII), today The Alexandra operates as the only licenced hotel in Leura. Sitting just east of Katoomba Street on the edge of the world-heritage listed Blue Mountains National Park, The Alexandra Hotel serves as a perfect base for both locals and travellers keen to discover the dramatic landscapes for which the region is renowned.
Palatial. Opulent. Grand. Much like the regal queen that inspired its name, The Alexandra Hotel offers intrepid explorers an experience fit for royalty. Its design was originally intended as an adaptation of the Queen Anne style with a 26-metre front balcony offering excellent views, 22 bedrooms with electric service bells, three bathrooms offering hot water, a large dining room, smoking room, recreation room, drawing room, fine interior arches and an astounding staircase made of kauri pine.
Fusing traditional Edwardian charm and the sophisticated touches of local architect F.C. Goyder, with all the luxurious finishes of a modern destination hotel, The Alex is the perfect combination of classic vintage elegance with contemporary comforts.
Renovated in 2014
Renovated in 2014, the hotel has long been a hidden gem, however, it has recently re-established itself as a regional leader in exclusive accommodation experiences, as well as a decadent dining destination.
Its well-designed rooms are refurbished, spacious and beautifully decorated. Impressively appointed, all suites include televisions, fluffy towels, tea and coffee facilities and bespoke toiletries. Similarly, its onsite eatery has also earned it a reputation amongst food lovers as one of the best in the Blue Mountains. In fact, the menu of “fine-dining pub grub” is matched only by the views on offer!
In addition to award-winning spaces to sleep and sip, The Alex is also home to a range of quintessential country-style pub offerings. Its services include function facilities; live music; a loyalty program and pool tables. Its patrons range from passing visitors and those seeking the perfect location for their destination event to young locals keen to enjoy an evening out in their own backyard. The Alex’s commitment to the community is further showcased through their association with a number of other local businesses (such as Mitre 10 Katoomba, Leura Cricket Club, Leura Village Association, Upper Blue Mountains Sunrise Rotary and Sorensen’s Glasshouse & Gardens).
